It was a Woman who Pushed for a Universal Declaration of Human Rights

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, that was adopted by the United Nations 72 years ago on December 10, 1948, has become a self-evident foundation of our lives. I grew up in a country where these rights are taken for granted. Nevertheless, billions of people worldwide are denied these rights, even though much has been done to end discrimination. Chaired by human rights activist Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of former U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt, the document was prepared by the UN Commission on Human Rights from 1946 to 1948. The 30 articles of the Declaration set out political, economic, social and cultural rights as well as civil rights. I have to admit that I had never read this Declaration in its entirety until today.
